Method
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with olive oil or butter.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add sour cream, chicken broth, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir until completely smooth and creamy.
- Add the cooked chicken, steamed broccoli, minced garlic, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese to the bowl. Stir until everything is evenly coated.
- Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese and optional bacon if using.
- Bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes until the casserole is bubbling and golden brown on top. If browning too quickly, loosely tent with foil.
- Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving so the sauce can firm up and portions hold together.
Notes
Always lightly steam the broccoli before mixing it into the casserole to prevent excess crunch and moisture issues. Allow the casserole to rest for 5 minutes after baking for cleaner slices. Rotisserie chicken works well as a shortcut. Optional bacon adds extra flavor and texture.
